The Golden Gate Bridge is a well-known bridge to those who watch “Full House”, “That’s So Raven”, or other shows that take place in San Francisco; but nobody really knows anything about the true reason of why it was made. That’s why I decided to have The Golden Gate Bridge as my Wonder of the World.
The Golden Gate Bridge is found in an area actually called Golden Gate, San Francisco route 101. San Francisco is a peninsula in California, and the Golden Gate Bridge is what connects northern California with San Francisco. The bridge goes over the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay, and is a total of 8,981 feet long. The reason why the bridge is so important and significant is because it’s one of the world’s largest bridges. Weighing around 88,000 tons, it’s built to last through tidal forces, wind, and earthquakes! Many builders helped out with this difficult challenge. The chief engineer was Irving F. Morrow, an architect who worked for a company called Strauss. The actual construction began in 1933, and cost $35 ½ million! It took four years to create the brand new rusty color bridge.
These are some of the reasons of why the Golden Gate Bridge is so popularized around the world. Actually, James H. Wilikins, a journalist in San Francisco, helped to publicize the bridge because he was the person in charge of writing about it in the paper. From being a beautiful landmark, to someone’s route to get to work, it’s a huge part in San Francisco.
